Hello Residents,
Autumn is upon us and Easter is approaching, I hope you have the opportunity to take a break.
Covid is active in our community at this time, and many families are affected as it peaks in Canterbury. Please do not hesitate to reach out for help should you need it.
Given the current situation after consultation with the chair of the Prebbleton Community Association, it has been decided to cancel the annual public Anzac commemoration at the Cenotaph this year.
As this commemoration is usually attended by up to 400 young and old members of our community in a reasonably small area, it was felt that the risk to those attending was too great at this time.
Residents are encouraged to stand at their gateways at 6 am to mark the occasion should they wish to do so.
There will be a brief wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph attended by a small number of representatives of the RSA, SDC, Prebbleton Community Association, and Hall committee.
Members of the public will be able to place their own tributes at the cenotaph during the day following the wreath-laying.
There will be no road closure or traffic management put in place this year and I ask that you wear a mask and respect the personal space of others whilst at the cenotaph.
I hope that you will support this decision given the unusual times we live in.
As always stay safe and be kind to each other.
If you would like to contact me txt or call on 027 433 9964 for the most direct response or email me at malcolm.lyall@selwyn.govt.nz I look forward to hearing from you and helping with local issues.
Malcolm.
