It is September, summer is just around the corner. The days are getting longer, daylight saving begins at the end of the month.
Our roads are getting busier, please be mindful of our school children when you are driving at the start and finish of the school day. If you have to drop your children off, please be respectful of the local residents’ accessways, it is not OK to park over their driveways.
Proposed Green Waste Treatment Facility
Eco Gas have lodged a consent application. I await ECAN planners’ decision as to whether it will be notified (allowing anyone to submit on it) or non-notified (with little opportunity to submit.) As previously stated, it is important that our voice is able to be heard.
Roundabouts
Both the Shands/Trents and the Shands/Hamptons roundabouts are getting closer to completion.
Unfortunately, the new government’s spending cuts may put the installation of the Springs Hamptons roundabout in jeopardy.

Representation Review
The council is obliged to review your level of representation every six years. We are charged with ensuring ratepayers are represented in an equitable manner. Each district is broken down into mesh blocks. The council is required to use the latest population data from Stats NZ. Ward boundaries are then determined under a +/- 10% rule. As our community grows, these boundaries require adjustment. The review is out for consultation and includes West Melton in a new Springs Ward and proposes to disestablish the Malvern Community Board.
The Springs Community Board was dis-established in 1991 as it was seen as an unnecessary buffer to getting things done. Submissions are open until 12th September.
