Prebbleton’s grinning from ear to ear with the arrival of its very own pump track, expertly designed by Milton and Frews trailbuilding it is every inch a track designed by experts with all skill sets in mind.
A pump track is a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and features designed to be ridden completely by riders ‘pumping’ - generating momentum by up and down body movements - instead of peddling or pushing, three skill levels are accommodated for by easy to follow guidelines following the whole circuit. In true Prebbleton spirit, it has proven to be inclusive of all ages, all modes of ride and skill set. On any given day BMX bikes, scooters, jump bikes, balance bikes, mountain bikes and skateboards can be seen riding side by side with parents happily sitting and enjoying the surroundings enhanced by a lovely planting by Texture Plants, plans are also afoot for seating and shade cloth to make it a destination for young and old.
It is always encouraging to see everybody’s focus on safety and helmets and pads are a must, I would like to say injuries have been low but with activities like jumping a bike, a few have fallen to the odd broken bone. A big thank you must certainly go out to the Selwyn District council and particularly Council Community Projects Manager Cameron Warr for a stellar job well done, situated on the Tosswill road corner of the domain it is fast becoming a jewel in the crown with recreational riders everywhere.
